Foreword To 'Panjab On The Eve Of First Sikh War' By Hari Ram Gupta

In this edition the volume has been thoroughly revised.

The actual letters have, however, been left intact in order to reserve their originality and authenticity. Various modifiations suggested by Shri Bal Krishna, the energetic Secretary, Publication Bureau, Panjab University, have been introduced with a view to facilitate the work of scholars and the general public and to make the book more useful and attractive. The maps have also been given a better form. A new section on the decline of Sikh Kingdom. 1839 to 1843. has been added for the benel it of advanced students.

The author desires to express his cordial acknowledgment to Shri S.S. Talwar, Director, Archaeology and Museum, Panjab, Patiala, for his kind help in the revision of the maps and the notes.
