Summary of 'Ideology of Sikh Gurus' By Dr Gurdev Singh Hansrao 

My field of study relates to Sikhism. My previous work "Social and Political thoughts of Sikh Gurus was submitted in fulfilment of require­ment for Ph.D. degree. It was published under the title "Punjab Politics"

Socio Politico Orientations of Sikh Gurus." Although it does not relate with modern Punjab Problem, but is a beacon of Light for modern society to survive in modern democratic state.

An extract from spokesman weekly dated May 11, 1988 under column "Book Review" by S.S.Chawla is as under:

"Despite being primarily preoccupied with spiritual matters the Gurus had clear ideas on social and political issues. Dr. Gurdev Singh is correct when he says that after an incisive analysis of the socio-Political situation of their times they came to the conclusion that without political power a community could not practise its religion. The socio political situation of the medieval milieu with an oppressive theocrative state in command would surely lead to such conclusion.

The present work is a continue series of previous one. And philosophy of gurus has studied deeply. In nutshell the ideology of Gurus did not develop a spiritual sensibility which makes people. Escape from their social obligations and seek refuge in the realm of the everlasting peace.

The chief object of the sikh gurus was to create a society which could lead to a morally healthy, materially stable happy. Socially bal­anced and politically stable life without having forced to undergo any kind of oppression, religious social or political.

The social unrest and people's moments appear in the form of religious moments, we cannot deny that the sikh moment had a socio­political context. But it is too much to say that the gurus were trying to inculcate a true religious spirit, among the people with a view to unrest political power from the foreigner oppressive state and wanted to change power structure to establish a democratic system of government.

Dr. Gurdev Singh Hansrao born in village Dhode Mazra (Ropar) an Ex-serviceman. He is veritably a scholar of Sikh Studies. Currently he is engaged with Punjab Uni­versity in higher research for post of doctorate Degree.
