Guru Ram Das in Sikh Tradition traces the impact of the fourth Sikh Guru (1534-1581) on the growth and Sikh community from the time of Guru Ram Das to the present. Guru Ram Das lived during the Sikh community was forming itself around a sacred centre, a place of refuge and peace, which thrives more than four hundred years later. Guru Ram Das is credited with Harimandir Sahib (the Golden Temple) as a sacred complex, as well as founding the city of Amritsar. Guru is also remembered through his poetry which is enshrined in the sacred exemplar by looking back retrospectively on five centuries of Sikh history. This historical account reveals his influence and standing in the Sikh from his lifetime to the present day, both in India and the West.

About The Author Of 'Guru Ram Das In Sikh Tradition'

GURUDHARM SINGH KHALSA Ph.D. from the United States wrote his doctoral dissertation on Guru Ram Das in Berkeley, California after completing his Masters degree in religious studies at the University of Chicago. Since receiving his doctoral degree in 1991, Dr. Khalsa has taught in the religion departments at 'Western Michigan University, and at Dickinson College and Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania. He is currently Assistant Professor of Religion at St. Lawrence University in Canton, New York. He has published numerous articles in Sikh Studies and is a member of the American Academy of Religion.
