Alka Pande is a well-known name in the field of art history and arts journalism in India. With degrees in History and Art History, Dr. Pande has served on many committees and on the Boards of many institutions. These include the Chair of the Chandigarh Lalit Kala Akademi; the Vice President of Alliance Francaise, Chandigarh and Member, Arts Purchase Committee of Government Museum, Chandigarh. Her keen interest in folk dance and music traditions and in their manifestations in regional theatre, handicrafts, folklore and history have lead to her research in these fields. She is at present the Chairperson, Department of Fine Arts, Panjab University, Chandigarh.
